From the Back of The Room

She put me at a loss for words

All confidence in her serenity
Was washed away
Like the waves at the shore
Gradually erasing
A footprint left
In the sand

Her face was blocked out from the world
Hard as stone
Rejecting the place that
Colored her invisible

Sorrow filled her heart
Leaving no room for
Sympathy or
Apology
From a friend who did nothing wrong
But felt as if she committed the worst crime

I dropped my head
Seeing as
There was no way
To pull her from
The path of
Broken glass
And needles
She paved out on her own

Other times
The clouds could be cleared
The water could be purified
The flowers could revive from their dead, wilted states.
But not this time

This time the weather wouldn't let up
The walls wouldn't give way
And I stood outside them
Waiting for an opening
That never came

This time, she lost herself.
And I couldn't find her.
